ONE MONTH TO GO UNTIL SHEPHERDS OF GOOD HOPE’S ANNUAL FOODIE FUNDRAISER! TASTE FOR HOPE WILL BE BIGGER, BETTER, AND HAVE MORE COMMUNITY IMPACT THAN EVER BEFORE!

OTTAWA, ON, 16 April 2024

In just under one month – on Wednesday, May 15th – the Shepherds of Good Hope Foundation will host its 12th annual foodie fundraiser, Taste for Hope, presented this year at the Shaw Centre. Twenty-eight of Ottawa’s top chefs and beverage providers will donate their time, creativity, and delicious food in support of this prestigious event.

The housing crisis and the high cost of groceries are hitting many Ottawa residents hard. The need for affordable and supportive housing, hot meals, and mental health services is increasing, particularly amongst Ottawa’s most vulnerable populations. Shepherds of Good Hope, along with volunteers and dedicated partners, is committed to supporting those most in need and the statistics prove that their services are working. In 2023 alone, they distributed almost 328,000 hot meals and provided temporary shelter for over 2,100 people. Clearly there is need, and this work is at the forefront of efforts to provide care and relief.

More and more people are talking about the importance of housing, shelter, and food security,” said David Gourlay, CEO of the Shepherds of Good Hope Foundation. “We want people to know that all of the funds raised go directly into the programs and supports that Shepherds of Good Hope provide to the community. Taste for Hope is an opportunity for people to show their support and compassion for those in need.”

Since the first Taste for Hope in 2013, almost 300 chefs have participated in the event! This year’s menu of chefs will feature some familiar faces, like Joe Thottungal of Thali and Coconut Lagoon, and Ben Baird from the Pelican Seafood Market & Grill. There will be some new faces and new tastes in the mix this year, including Wapokunie Riel-Lachapelle from Nikosi Bistro in Wakefield, Ric Watson of Chef Ric’s, and Riley Gilchrist of Aperitivo.

Chef Joe Thottungal – someone who embodies generosity and compassion – shares his thoughts about being a chef for Taste for Hope:

“Participating in Taste for Hope year after year is a privilege as a chef, to share our talent and passion for food while supporting those in need. It’s a reminder of the blessings we have and the power of coming together to make a difference.”

The evening will offer a variety of ways to support the cause while connecting with leaders in the business community. Guests can participate in a live auction to purchase beds for those experiencing homelessness. Donations can be made on site at a Tree of Hope and a Wall of Tulips.
